About Us

Ataahua Alpaca Stud is owned by Jackee & Jeff Peters and supported by their daughter Ashlee.

"Ataahua means beautiful in Maori".

Our family of 5 have farmed this 4 hectare lifestyle block north of Hamilton, New Zealand, since 1994. We mainly raised calves on nurse cows until we met alpacas in 2006. We were intrigued by their beautiful fleece and gentle natures and decided to start with 2 pet wethers to learn more about alpacas. Our first cria was born in 2008 and we currently have about 25 alpacas which are mostly breeding females. We now have 8 hectares to graze the alpacas and dexter cows.

We aim to breed black huacaya alpacas but we have other colours to help improve their fleece characteristics. We have a range of alpacas for sale and stud services to suit your breeding programme or budget. We also have experience with importing and exporting alpacas if required.

Our long-term goal is to breed fine black fleece.
Under 20 micron first fleece and below 25 micron into maturity.

Ataahua Alpaca Stud is a member of the New Zealand Alpaca Association and being involved in the industry is important to us. Jackee and Ashlee are both active Fleece Stewards and highly encourage anybody wanting to learn more to volunteer some time at a local A&P show. These shows are an enjoyable way to support and promote the industry and we have been very pleased with our results.
Our most successful alpaca is our black female Tamara. Her success in the showring includes several highly acclaimed awards including 'Best Coloured Huacaya' at the Waikato Show 2009 and 'Supreme Champion Black Huacaya Fleece' at the first North Island Colourbration Show 2012 and again in 2014. Turkish Delight achieved our first national championship with the Champion Fawn Fleece and Champion Junior Fleece in 2013. We look forward to our herd following their lead in the future.

You are most welcome to contact us for more information about alpacas, our breeding or to arrange a farm visit.
